“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”
― Dalai Lama XIV, The Art of Happiness
Tarrant, Alabama police Officer William Stacey caught starving mother, Helen Johnson, stealing five eggs from a local grocery shop, and his response was awesome. Instead of arresting the poor woman, he offered her help by delivering two truckloads of food right into her doorstep and greeted her with a warm hug.
With all the stories of police officers misbehaving, here’s a story of how our officers make the world a better place.
The 47-year-old woman was in total disbelief when she saw the officer the next day. Johnson told the officer that it was never her intention to steal eggs. She just responded out of crisis when she found out her unemployment check was lost in the mail and has no way to feed her daughters, niece, and grand-kids.
This amazing act of kindness caught the nation’s attention, especially with news of police misconduct dominating the headlines. This was confirmed when Al.Com interviewed Tarrant Police Chief Dennie Reno, who said: ‘A guy called me from New York and just broke down. He said for two months he’s been angry with police, and he said this has totally changed his mind.’
This just goes to show that the majority of officers out there just want to help build a better community and are amazing individuals who put their life on the line every day for us.
